3 Ways To Deal With Your Waste In An Eco-Friendly Way

Environmental Blog

It is almost impossible in the United States to not create waste; however, you do have control over how you dispose of the waste that you create. If you want to minimize the impact that your waste has on the environment, you need to make sure you are engaging in eco-friendly ways to dispose of your waste.

Way #1: Start a Compost Pile

If you live where you have access to the outdoors, you can start an outdoor compost pile and use the compost in your yard. Even if you live in a home without a yard, you can create an indoor compost bin and use the compost in your planters. Or you may live in an area that has a compost bin that you can put out for collection.

Composting is not just for yard trimming. Food waste is an important part of the composting process. Much of the food waste that you create can be composted. Any natural food waste from fruits, vegetables, and grains that don't contain oils or fats can be composted. Other surprising things you can compost include tea bags, coffee grounds, old spices, wine, beer, and even parchment paper.

You do want to keep grease and meat scraps away from your compost bin.

Way #2: Stop Using One-Time Use Items

You can also reduce the number of one-time-use items that you use. For example, you can purchase reusable bags you can use for your fruits and vegetables when you go grocery shopping instead of the small plastic bags that are provided in the produce section. You can use a reusable water bottle instead of a single-use plastic water bottle. Instead of purchasing plastic storage containers, reuse food containers you already purchased to store your food in.

Reducing the waste that you create is an eco-friendly way to reduce the waste that you have to dispose of in the first place.

Way #3: Sort Your Trash

Finally, you should sort your trash out. Set up recycling containers in your home and ask your garbage service to provide you with recycling bins. You need a glass recycling bin, as well as a paper/cardboard recycling bin. When you start sorting your trash, you will be surprised at how much of your trash can actually be recycled. Once you establish good recycling habits, you may even be able to reduce the size of your trash can.

If you want to deal with your life in an eco-friendly way, you need to start a compost pile for your food waste. Stop using one-time-use items and start using reusable items instead. Start sorting your trash and recycling everything you can.
